I am a pretty low maintenance kind of girl and I prefer to get a few more minutes of shut eye in the morning over most anything else. However, I do like to look presentable so I do my hair and make up almost everyday. Nothing fancy for either because again low maintenance but while I could get away with not doing my make up everyday, if I don’t do anything with my hair, I end up looking like a cross between a poodle and a lion’s mane. It dries big and frizzy. I can not just shower, wash my hair and go. So in order to still look presentable but not spend a lot of time in front of the mirror, I have a few tricks that I use. Although, I suppose these aren’t really tricks and a lot of people know them, but I still wanted to share because they are easy and do not take a lot of time but come out looking pretty nice.
First one and my favorite “go-to” is pigtail braids. After I shower or even if my hair is dry but I just haven’t done anything with it yet, I love to do two loose pigtail braids. I like to keep the braids kind of loose though so that when I take them out in the morning, it comes out more wavy rather than kinky. Also, if I keep them kind of loose, my hair will dry quicker. I have thick and long hair so it takes forever to dry.
My second “hack” is I will pull my hair back into a loose ponytail and then twist all of my hair around into a bun. After I take it out, it leaves loose ringlets. My hair takes longer to dry this way but it is still usually dry by morning. This will also work on dry hair as well but is best done with wet hair.
Another “hack” of mine which I use to do all the time in high school but still works now is to pull my hair back in a loose ponytail and then take gel and “scrunch” it. I know this probably brings to mind the awful days of girls everywhere with crunchy hair from this same technique but I don’t use that much and I use Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel and it has never made my hair crunchy. Instead, when I take my hair out of the ponytail in the morning and I loosely finger comb my hair, it comes out in soft, loose waves without being crunchy or looking wet or anything that may come to mind when talking about hair gel.
My last “hack” is to just pull two sections from the around the front of my face and braid them, then I pull them back and use a small clip or Bobby pins or something like that and keep them in place at the back of my head. The rest of my hair will still be kind of “poodle-ish” this way but it doesn’t look too bad, plus I could still always braid the rest of my hair in the pigtail braids and that would come out nice as well.
So again, I suppose these aren’t really “hacks” because I’m sure a lot of people are aware of these hairstyles/ideas, but I know they are huge time savers for me and maybe they can be for you as well. Do you use any of these to save time? Do you have different things that you do? Let me know in the comments!
